Can You Keep Your PPF After Moving Abroad?

A friend messaged me from Dubai last week, bit worried - "Do I have to close my PPF now since I have moved?" Good question. The answer to his question surprised him.
If you opened that PPF while you were still living in India, you can keep it running even after you move abroad, same account, right up to its 15-year finish line, still earning its comfortable tax-free return. Changing cities, changing countries - none of it touches the account.
But one part most people miss. Becoming an NRI and becoming a foreign citizen may not the same thing for your Indian investments. If you later acquire foreign citizenship, the treatment of your PPF can change significantly, so that's the point to check the prevailing rules before continuing as before.
So, moving abroad doesn't necessarily end your PPF. A change in citizenship is a different event altogether.
Something worth knowing before you move or before your passport changes.
